In Sierra Leone barriers such as poverty and harmful social norms hold girls back from transformative experiences.

Girls take on the majority of household responsibilities like cleaning, cooking and looking after their siblings. Having fun and feeling free is not prioritised for girls, like it is for their brothers.

At the heart of being any young person though, is experiencing fun and finding joy in life.

At One Girl, we believe that while going to school is key for positive change, impact also happens beyond the classroom.

Beyond the classroom, girls learn critical life skills to help them thrive in society. Beyond the classroom, experiences happen that transform lives.

Watch this 2 minute video and meet One Girl scholars, Veronica & Kadiatu - two 16 year old young women from Freetown, who had never been to the beach before joining One Girl.

Reflecting on the day, Veronica shared, “It was my first time at the beach, and I’m so happy. I even learned how to swim and ate my first hamburger!”

Kadiatu said, “Today, my day is very very great. I’m so happy to be at the beach. I loved playing football, dancing, and just being here. I want to come back again and again.”

One Girl creates spaces and experiences that enable young women to feel safe and free to be themselves. In this, they experience joy - a gift that is truly priceless.

$30 can contribute to an end of year gift for one scholar.
$60 can provide 2 scholars with the opportunity to attend a monthly meeting, gaining access to inspiring guest speakers, receiving breakfast, lunch and learning essential life skills that empower them to thrive.
$150 can provide 3 scholars with a life changing experience, such as a fun day at the beach with food and transport included.
$330 can provide 1 scholar with a back-to-school kit which includes a school bag, books, pen, uniforms, shoes, hats, calculator, geometry set and much more.
$2,250 contributes to a full scholarship for a One Girl Scholar, helping her become an unstoppable world changer.
