I'm donating my birthday to support this awesome cause
It's my birthday! I know that I have incredibly generous family and friends, however, I'm fortunate enough to have, or be able to buy, almost anything that I want or need. A large part of that is due to the education I've received and the resultant opportunities. I'd love to pay it forward by sending 5 girls to school for a year, in the hope that this will even the playing field by slowly changing the bleak facts around child marriage (15 million girls a year), illiteracy (2/3 of illiterate adults are women) and overwhelming health & economic disadvantages faced by women worldwide.
$300 supports the education of one girl for a year so some quick math tells me we need $1500 :) One Girl is a DGR so your donations will be tax-deductible in Australia.
A gift is by no means expected and I'm so excited to see all your faces after several years of not calling Australia home. But if you did feel like buying a present, this is the most worthy thing I can think of.
