This Christmas, change her life with the gift of education.
Times are tough in Sierra Leone right now. The cost of living has TRIPLED since the start of the year. And it's hitting families hard. Basic items like food and fuel are too expensive. Because of this, children are walking long distances to school and many families can't afford to feed their families.
Kaday*, who lost both her parents and now lives with her sister, knows this struggle first hand. Her sister has had to do some petty trading, just to try to keep up with the escalating cost of everyday essentials. And it is still not enough. Sometimes Kaday and her sister can only afford to eat one meal a day.
Despite all this, Kaday is determined to go to school because she believes education is the KEY to changing her life for the better. In her own words:
"I believe that education can change my life entirely, and also can change my status and also can bring me out of poverty. I can become what I want to become."
Grateful for the support, Kaday has seized this opportunity, which has been reflected in her academic performance. She's recently been appointed deputy head girl in her school —an achievement that speaks volumes about her dedication and resilience.
“One of my dreams for the future is to become a successful lawyer, to advocate and fight for women and girls. For that reason, I am determined to stay in school and also focus on my study because I want to inspire other girls.”
As we enter the season of giving, you can play a pivotal role in girls' like Kaday's educational journey.
Here's how your donation can make a difference:
- $33 can provide 3 One Girl scholars with transport to and from school for 1 month.
- $50 can provide 5 scholars with lunch money for 1 month.
- $129 can provide 3 scholars with a rechargeable solar light to study at night.
- $210 can provide a scholar with a back-to-school kit, which includes a school bag, books, pen, uniforms, shoes, hats, calculator, geometry set and much more.
- $300 can provide 60 scholars with sanitary pads for a month.
- $2,250 contributes to supporting a One Girl Scholar inside and outside the classroom for an entire year, by breaking down the financial, cultural, and social barriers a girl in Sierra Leone faces.
