It's time to celebrate!
June is workplace giving month (yay!), so what better way to celebrate than to share some words from Emanuel, who donates to One Girl through his employer’s workplace giving program.
“I give because I believe that education is the most powerful means of empowering girls to transform their lives, the lives of their families and communities, and the world. I want girls in less fortunate parts of the world to grow up and have the same life opportunities that my daughter does. Lastly, I believe that education is a human right.”
Emanuel’s employer, McKinsey & Company, encourages employees to donate to a charity through their workplace giving program, and they also partake in matched giving throughout the year, to double the impact of employee’s donations.
Emanuel has been donating through the workplace giving program since mid-2020, and would encourage others to consider donating to One Girl if they have the means to do so.
“There is an old Greek proverb that reads, “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in”. Being able to give is a privilege and great personal social responsibility. Supporting programs which invest in developing countries is simply part of being a global citizen.”
Thank you so much, Emanuel, for supporting One Girl in this way — we are so grateful for your support of girls’ education and gender equality, and love having you as part of the One Girl family.
Everything you need to know
Workplace giving is a super easy and incredibly effective way for employees to support charities and causes they are passionate about. Workplace giving programs are often administered by payroll departments (meaning you don’t have to do much extra work), and typically involve a contribution each pay cycle, or donations at certain times of the year — for example, quarterly or biannually.
So if you’re really passionate about causes like girls’ education, and would love to contribute a bit towards One Girl’s work – all you would need to do is select an amount to be deducted from your salary each time you get paid — then your payroll team or dedicated online platforms do the rest!
All the workplace giving pros.
For employers – it’s an effortless, pre-tax facilitated process. Most payroll softwares are equipped to do all the work, so all you have to do is get your employees on board! Plus, workplace giving demonstrates organisational leadership and creates a culture of social impact and generosity. With everyone ‘in it together’ to collectively make the world a better place, it’s no surprise that these programs have led to happier teams and higher retention — who wouldn’t want that?
For employees – it not only gives you the opportunity to support the socially responsible causes of your choice, but has been reported to lead to higher morale. Should you choose to support One Girl, we won’t leave you in the dark either! We’ll be in contact to share regular updates on our programs and their impact, so you can see just how much of a difference you’re making to the lives of girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda.
Ready, set, go!
To get started as an employer, you can choose from either one of two options:
- You can set up your own internal workplace giving program, and set up regular bank transfers that coincide with your pay cycle. The Australian Taxation Office provides some assistance with this! If you decide to go with this option, there will be no additional fees (which third party platforms sometimes incur), and you can rest assured that all your contributions will go straight to One Girl - just email info@onegirl.org.au for deposit details, and we can go from there.
- Alternatively, you could also sign up to a third party platform, such as Give Now or Good2Give. This lets your employees create their own accounts, select their charity of choice and manage their own contributions.
If you’re an employee, and want to start supporting One Girl through workplace giving, check in with your payroll team to see if they already have a program in place. If they don’t, you can direct them through to this very blog post for instructions on how to get started!
Simple as that!
