One Girl Ambassador Molly Pierce (pictured left) taking part in Do It In A Dress, 2019!
Hi (apparently you don’t usually start a blog with ‘hi’ but hey this year isn’t exactly usual! So I’m saying Hi).
My name is Florence and I’m new to the Melbourne-based One Girl team. I joined in mid-February as the Community Engagement Manager. An exciting new job, new faces to meet, new systems to learn and money to be raised, then POW! In the space of three weeks, I’m suddenly working from my old school desk at home and seeing the contents of my fridge more than I see other people.
One of the best parts of my job is getting out to schools, universities and organisations to speak about One Girl and how people can support girls’ access to education. Unfortunately, with the government restrictions in place, this is not currently possible. Like many organisations, we at One Girl have had to make changes; from meeting rooms to zoom, seminars to webinars, work and home to work from home, visits to the coffee shop to visits to the fridge, from lunch with colleagues to lunch …with the cat!
We know this year hasn’t exactly gone to plan, but hey, what year does? The last few months have had their ups and serious downs, but becoming an ambassador will be an up — trust me. Our ambassador program this year — unlike other years — is about reaching a collective goal, working together, collaborating on ideas and connecting through our online platform.
The program is a great opportunity (and sorry to sound like every news channel right now!) to come together, reach out to others and make a real change! We may be isolated, but no one should feel alone — not our local neighbours or the communities in Sierra Leone and Uganda.
We are searching for 100 passionate ambassadors to join us for the ultimate isolation challenge this winter — collectively raising $100,000 for One Girl’s education programs in Sierra Leone and Uganda.
You’ll join an online network of like-minded people, make new friends, learn about what it means to be an advocate for girls’ education, complete fun weekly challenges, join creative virtual catch-ups, and be a leader of positive change.
It’s going to be unique, interactive, fun and challenging. It is also going to keep our mission to harness the power of education to drive change for girls and their communities alive.
Together with 99 other passionate game-changers, you have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of girls everywhere and make this winter really count!
Will you take on the challenge to make sure that COVID-19 doesn’t become yet another barrier preventing girls and young women from accessing education and achieving their potential?
I’m so excited to see what we can do together and look forward to hearing from you!
Florence
